On April 27th 2022, Queer Vote Ontario submitted a questionnaire to each major Ontario political party with key questions on 2SLGBTQIA+ issues in the 2022 Ontario election. The Green Party of Ontario, Ontario Liberal Party and Ontario New Democratic Party submitted responses. The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party did not submit a response.
On May 19th and May 25th, the Queer Vote Ontario coalition met to review party responses. We assessed each party response alongside their platform commitments on 2SLGBTQIA+ issues. We graded for 2022, not 2002.
The results are in – the Green Party and the NDP received B grades, followed by a B- for the Liberal Party, and a resounding F – for failure to respond – from the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.
The ONDP, GPO and OLP all affirmed their commitments to QVO’s three policy priorities for the 2022 provincial election – expanding access to gender affirming healthcare, creating a 2SLGBTQIA+ action plan and dedicating $25M a year to 2SLGBTQIA+ health, social and community services. The Progressive Conservatives did not respond and are the only major Ontario political party that has not endorsed our election priorities.
